“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” Ephesians 5:8
We are called to be lights in the world. The light we shine is the light of Christ who said “I am the light of the world.” His light brightens and changes lives. That is the light we should be shining to every person. Our light should shine every moment of every day.
In the time that the Bible was written, there were two types of light. The light from flames or from the sun, moon, or stars. There were no electric lights. The light of a flame represents our light very well. Sometimes it flickers, so too sometimes our light is brighter than other times. A flame can light another flame without losing any of its light. We can bring another person to the Lord, make them light up, without losing our light. We can also ignite Christians around us to shine brighter when their flame is dwindling and dying out.
Christmas is a time when people are open to hearing about Jesus. It is a wonderful time to be out in the world as a light seeking to light other lights. People’s hearts are tender toward the Lord. As Christians we would be wise to capitalize on this.
Make it a point this Christmas season to be out ministering and shining your light. Let people see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. For as Jesus says in Matthew 5, this is being a light that is not hidden. Let not your light be hidden but let it burn brightly and bring other people to the light of Jesus. Jesus is what we celebrate this time of year. Live as the Lord’s light and so that your light may shine that all may see His light.
